Software

I am familiar with multiple software packages, in particular Xero and QuickBooks.

Additionally, I have some experience using FreeAgent, Sage Accounting and Kashflow, as well as various add-on apps such as Float, Satago and AutoEntry.

Xero

  • Cloud-based platform specifically designed for small and medium-sized businesses

  • Single unified ledger

  • Desktop plus mobile apps for Android and iOS

Xero has a strong reputation for its features and its robustness, and since its 2006 founding in New Zealand it has collected numerous accolades and awards, both for the quality of its products and the ease of its use.

Its key features are:

  • accounts payable

  • bank/credit card accounts – automatic feeds and statements

  • expense claims

  • fixed asset depreciation

  • invoicing

  • purchase orders

  • standard business and management reports

  • supports multiple tax rates and currencies

  • HMRC approved for filing MTD

Xero allows users and software providers to integrate third-party software, and there are many add-ons currently available including debt management, invoicing, stock control and inventory and CRMs.

QuickBooks

  • Three tiers of subscription to suit sole traders, small and medium-sized businesses

  • Supports integration of payment and e-commerce apps

  • Desktop (Windows) plus mobile apps for Android & iOS

QuickBooks is produced by Intuit Inc., a Californian-based company founded in 1983. The software is extremely popular with over 3 million users worldwide, although some Mac users have experienced difficulties with compatibility to the newer versions of Apple's macOS.

Its key features are:

  • accountant access

  • bank accounts - automatic feeds

  • expenses

  • invoicing

  • mileage tracking

  • payroll

  • snap and store receipts

  • VAT

QuickBooks allows users and software providers to integrate third-party software, and there are many add-ons currently available including debt management, invoicing, stock control and inventory and CRMs.

Hours & Fees

Hours

The hours that you need me will depend on the number of financial transactions your business generates. If you are considering becoming an ongoing bookkeeping client then we will agree on hours and charges before I start work.

Fees

I charge £25 an hour for new clients, with a minimum charge of £125 a month for ongoing bookkeeping assistance. Consultancy is charged differently as the work is time-pressured, and it's much harder to dip in and out of someone else's accounts than maintain them daily. Click here for more information.
